Default KEBC Actuator

HEY GUYS,

well, for some strange reason my KEBC actuator went out this past weekend on my Prairie 650. i changed the fuses out and also checked the connection between the wires at the plug with no success. the 2wd/4wd alternates every second. my question is, if i ride my bike does it hurt anything? will anything go wrong if i ride it this comeing weekend and if so what could happen?? the other question is. Is it difficult to change out?? i know its only 1 plug that plugs in but how difficult is it to put on the Belt cover?? any info would definatly help. THANK YOU!!

Often what fails is the actuator controller. It's under the seat, in front and to the left of the CDI. Do a search on "actuator" and you'll see how many of us have already replaced ours.

Kawasaki, are you listening?

my actuator took a dump and i had to get it replaced. mine was always partially engaged which can cause the belt to drag which eats your belt and grooves the pulleys. replaceing it is easy, just one plug and three bolts on top of the belt cover

it was the actuator control module on mine, the thing under the seat. I pulled the fuse and rode mine anyway. no 4wd or engine braking but I got by. I know I didnt hurt anything by doing it.

another question guys, if it is the control module. would that make the 4wd not work also?? or would it only make the engine break not work and the 4wd work?? what i'm saying is, if it is the control module shouldn't both the 4wd actuator and the engine break actuator malfunction???

it could make the 4wd not work. my 4wd worked sometimes and sometimes it didnt. I didnt realize it wasnt working until i tried to pull it on the trailer without ramps. the rear wheels just spun while the indicator flashed back and forth.

well, my 4wd is working but i'm not getting the engine break to work. the only thing thats stopping me is my breaks and the compression from the motor. would you say its the Actuator on the belt cover??

When mine failed, the 4WD also went out, and the actuator was stuck in a partially engaged position. That caused the machine to want to go forward, even when just idling.

Do you know anyone with a Prairie? You could just swap out the controller and see if that's the problem. Or maybe go to the dealer and see if they'll let you swap out a controller with a new machine. I doubt there's a difference between the 650 and 700.

Just unplug it it will not hurt anything and give you quicker 4wd/2wd engagement. It won't hurt anything unplugged until you get another one. There are many guys running with out them at all.

unless you need the kebc i would just throw it away. DG makes a module to stop the blink of the 4wd lights so you can run with out the actuator. i dont know how much it costs but im sure its alot cheaper then the $234 i spent on my actuator
