Drag racing on a straight strech has nothing to do with rider. Track, and trail has everything to do with rider.

I come from the motocross world. I come form the trail riding world, I now dabble in the ATV world.
Who really cares how fast it will go? you dont get up to top speed in a race, on a trail or up a hill climb.
Any idiot can give full throttle and go ina straight line. What does it prove really. Ohhhh my quad is faster then yours. WHO REALLY CARES. YOu probably spent ans wasted way too much time and money to beat someone in a straight line race.
Why dont you take it to a track, That is where the rider aspect comes into play. Not in a drag race. Come on. that takes absolutly no skill at all.
On the track i ride a wr 400. A friend rides an xr250. He kicks my **** every time. But in a drag of cours i win.
On the trails, we all ride 400,426-450 yamahas, YZ or WR and there are just some that are better and faster on the trails.
So why do you care so much about top speed? you rarely ever get there.
and you have got to be kidding me that it is all abotu how good of a rider is if he wins a drag race.

First off I will start buy saying I really don't like the drag seen as much and I am in more into the track and trail as well as you lewichris. It does take more skill for track and trail, but if you are drag racing in short distances then there has to be SOME skill in order to be fast.
Example: I beat a piped Banshee with my piped 400ex. Clearly the Banshee is faster, but I saved a second or two buy shooting out of the hole fast as he just went through the gears which is "easy". Im sorry, but to say a rider has nothing to do with a drag is ignorance.
Getting out of the hole is key, and you can even save tenths of a second buy shifting quickly at just the right RPM, so closely matched quads can come down to tenths of a second that a "good" rider can save.
lewichris, just surious, but why do you ride trail bikes on the track and more MX style bikes on the trails like the YZ's?

pendejo, open mouth, insert foot! LOL
BTW, I don't care about top speed, I like how fast you get there, but Im just stating the obvious.

I was about to argue the speed was faster due to an aftermarket exhaust, but then saw that they hit the rev limiter. So regardless of aftermarket components, the gearing and tires were stock. So it might have gotten to top speed faster, but it shouldn't have had a faster top speed (hope that makes sense).

I wasn't trying to dog you, just like to make cracks! Im usually always a little sarcastic unless I am talking to liers or bashers.
Anyway, I don't think there is a production quad today doing over 75 do to a manufactures' agreement. That is why they are all geared down a bit and have restrictions like a pipe and what not so the manufactures stay out of trouble.

I ride one bike on both cause i cant afford more then one bike.
We drag race all the time.
xr400,
wr400
wr426
yz400
crf450
yz250
cr250
I win sometimes sometimes others win. I do nothing special then ride my bike as fast as it will go. It takes no skill for me.
IT is ignorance to think that it takes skill to race in a straight line. When drag racing is not a skill heavy activity. Hit the gas, shift when you redline, easy as that. Please tell me what skill it takes.

1st- I didn't know you only had one bike, I thought you meant you have a trail bike and a MXer and rode them vise versa of what they where meant for. And there is nothing wrong with only one bike, I have only had one up until this past year until I ran across some dough.
Anyways, back to the point...........
2nd- You better hope the Drag boys don't read this, that's all a lot of them do here. And they take it serious. Like I said, Im not into really, but it does take some skill. Not as much as opposed to MX or challenging trails, but there is some.
Unless of course when your so good it doesn't take no skill like yourself!
Let's say you were on a yz450f, and another person was on yz250f, clearly the 450 is much more powerfull, but Im sure there is some people on here that would still beat you on the 250 because they are more SKILLED than yourself. It isn't just about hitting the gas, on a powerfull machine, you have to manage the power so it all gets to the ground.
I think a lot of other people will agree and some will probably be afended for that is what they love. So I would open your eyes before you start shootin your mouth off.

I am looking at the owners manual right now.
It says STOCK gearing is 14/38
The manual ALSO states the 450 comes with 20" rear tires.
DIRTWHEELS states with 14/38 gearing, and 20" tires, top speed was 78.1 MPH.
How is this not stock gearing?? Maybe instead of harassing pendejo and I, you should RE-read the article yourself??
By all accounts that I can see, my statement was correct.
If I am wrong, please show me where my error lies.
