Now I am curious where I got the 72mph/low 70's number from.
Thanks to you guys, I am going to be spending the last part of my night (when I get back from the library) flipping through months of Dirtwheels mags (which is never a bad thing anyway [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img])

I don't have a clue if my YFZ does 78 but I know it's faster than stock becuase of my mods and bigger tires. And spoRtRax450R, you would get beat by ZQUAD if you are stock, I'm telling you, on sunday, a buddy of mine who is a better rider than me got beat by ZQUAD, that Brute Force has lots of acceleration!

Well, it appears as though HughJazz and spoRtRax450R were correct about the top speed.
Dirtwheels says it is 78.1 MPH.
I was about to argue the speed was faster due to an aftermarket exhaust, but then saw that they hit the rev limiter. So regardless of aftermarket components, the gearing and tires were stock. So it might have gotten to top speed faster, but it shouldn't have had a faster top speed (hope that makes sense).
So, I appologize, and admit I was wrong on the top speed issue, though I must say it DOES surprize me.
Oh, and spoRtRax450R;
You made the comment that Dirtwheels "NEVER listed top speed for it before".....
I don't have the March issue, but Dirtwheels states:
"for reference, when we did our first shoot-out between the YFZ450 and the TRX450R in the March issue we also did top speed runs and came up with 78.3 mph and 78.9 mph respectively for those machines"
Now if someone still has their March issue, they can verify whether or not Dirtwheels actually posted the top speeds back then. I can't seem to find mine here anywhere.

THAT TOP SPEED is only because it was geared high. So in a drag it will get maulled. A stock YFZ450 probably runs 72ish. NOT 78. If you gear it to top out at 78 then in a drag a bike with less HP is going to beat you.
And why is it so hard to believe that a Brute beat a 450? Just because it is a UTE doesn't mean everything!

BS, read it again, I have that issue! It IS NOT stock gearing, the idea of the article was to see what gears worked best for the highest top speed. They even used 2 different sets of tires. I think it was 20in and 22in tires.
