Default Help needed,Getting ready to buy a bayou 220

I am getting ready to purchase a Bayou 220 that the gentleman is claiming is a 1997, is there a digit in the VIN number that I can use to verify it, and also where is the Vin on the quad.

The 10th digit on the vin tells what year it is. I think that they started with 1980 -A,81-B, etc. I could be off by the start year by 1 year. I know that there are places that give the code, years and letters match, but not sure where.

Well, it turns out the Bayou I was looking at was a 1993, is 1200.00 a good deal on that old of a quad, how do these things hold up? By the way if anyone wants to look up a Kawi's year by its vin, I found a resource on Kawi's website, here is the LINK Once there, click on the warranty info link on the left hand side.
