Default KFX 700 recommendations?

New to the forum and first post. Going to purchase a new quad and want to hear what you think about my choice. I've chosen the KFX 700 because it seems to be (pros):

1) easy maintenance shaft drive
2) V twin, excellent power
3) model is a few years old

(cons)
1) my friends drive utility models
2) will I be getting stuck trying to do what they do
3) weight

I'm 35, 220lbs. Most riding will be casual trails..no mud bogs, and snow.

Any difference between 04 - 05 models?

My husband just got one in hmmm, August and he loves it. He use to have the utility type quad and he loves this machine. He is oh 6"3 and 300 lbs, big foot ball player type and he can go anywhere with this thing.

Welcome Retic, believe it or not I have taken my V force everywhere a 4 x4 can go Snow(in the snow just get momentum and keep the front end up *not hard to do* and you'll float right on top of the snow), mud, steep inclines the fact that it's an automatic and you never have to shift but maybe use the brakes as a clutch really allows to you go almost anywhere. I did have trouble with the snow but with different tires I'm sure I could have gone anywhere. the holeshots kick tail in the dirt but suck in the snow! they do how ever do quite well in the sand dunes (as long as you don't start spinning) your right the weight is a pain in the @ss espicially when you bury the back end. and the mods tend to be more expensive *not sure why that is* but all in all it's a very reliable machine. I love it!

I had a Scrambler 500 4X4 for a few years and really liked it. All my buddies at the time had utility quads, and the scrambler was alot sportier. Now I have the V-Force and it is the best quad I have ever had and by far the most fun. I very rarely miss having 4X4. Change the rear tires and this beast will go almost anywhere your buddies go and it will be with alot more power and speed! With the auto tranny and low end torque, you can slowly crawl through technical; stuff just like a utility. It is 517 lbs dry, most utility quads are going to be at least 600 lbs and on up. Your size is just right for this bike, it won't throw you around. If you avoid the deep mud bogs and snow over 8-10 inches, you will love it. If you really want 4X4, go get a Prairie 700 4X4, take the racks off of it, change to some lightweight wheels and tires and you will have a sport 4X4 that only weighs a few lbs more then the V. For casual trail riding the V is perfect, add a couple of simple mods and you will have a blast smoking all your friends.

Thanks to everyone for their posts!
As for mods...does it really need it? I'm a little confused as to what the spring upgrade will do for the clutch. And if you provide a free flowing exhaust, you must jet(jetting is worry-some for me) and open the airbox. Sounds like a great project. Just don't want it to be too loud because I do plan on riding near my house.

retic,

I commend you on your desire to keep it quiet. For me personally, the V doesn't need any mods for the riding I do, but the suspension can get a little choppy, so a set of Elka's would be the hot ticket for me. I hope to do some winter riding next year. If so, I will be putting on the widest set of sand wedges for the fronts and maybe a set of Realtors on the back or maybe even a set of paddles. It already has the auto tranny which would make it easier in the snow. I have even cheked out a set of tracks and skis made by A.D. Boivin for the Kawi. They have an awesome pic of the V set up with the full set as wel as some sort of mini fairing/hand guards.

Just bought a V-Force today! Love it so far, but the snow is really an issue with the stock tires. We've got about 6-8" on the ground and it's wet right now. Now way can I get through it with the Holeshots. What tires do you guys recommend for snow??

Hello retic. I too like the KFX700 for some of the same reasons as you. Like the others say, you really only need 4WD when you need to go through deep mud or deep snow. Other than that you will probably go most anywhere the utilities go. I was amazed that my 2WD quad went virtually anywhere I pointed it. By the way I plow snow with my quad. See my pics.
I hope this helps.
