Default WARNING WNY Riders!!

The question that I am aking myself right now is......Why do we even have to register? Legally the only place we can ride is on our private poperty We dont legally have to register and insure our ATV if we are using it on our private poperty? So whats the point?

These are questions by the way.

yamihoo thanks for not taking offense. Why dont you move to NY and give us a hand with all your opions. You can be our ring leader.

The best group to join in NY is Trailpass.com. I myself virtually always go to Majestic Trails in PA.

Gov Pataki and his state budget has ATV reg's going from $10 to $48, which is almost twice my cars. Then has the ***** to add that he is going to reduce riding areas too. How can you reduce from ZERO???

The tickets issued, in my opinion, is another way for gov't's to raise revenue. That is obvious now in WNY where there are all kinds of local budget shortages. 2-3 years ago, $50 tickets are now $250. Just another form of taxation

You guys in MN have an advantage in that Polaris & Artic Cat have a major presence there, and probably damn good lobbyists. I don't understand why the ATV mfg'er's don't lobby more for land for riders. They are bigger and could have more power. More land=more ATV sales too

Thats terrible to hear they are raising the registration, and giving you nothing back. When we get a license hike here, we get an explaination of the reason and benefit.
You're right we are fortunate here in MN, I"m sure money from the manufactures helps us out. Business owners work with the lawmakers, we all know what makes this happen $$$$$.
Some of it we know about, a lot of it we don't. But our DNR and leglislation is clear and open, we have a lot of support in this state. Hate to rub it in but thousands of miles of trails here, and hundreds more opening in the next few years. A lot of our trails are really the result of the logging industry here too. If they are going to make hundreds of miles of roads, we might as well use them.
Sounds like your Snowmobile associations would be a great place to start working with. Go to there clubs, work with them, you might be surprised. If you all can work together, you all may benefit. Support their trails with membership, and like you said, if your group offers hands on trail maint, seems everyone comes out a winner.
A lot of the snowmobilers here are also ATVers, sure a lot aren't and we share a lot trails here. Some don't get along, most do. WI and MI also share a lot of the same trails with snowmobilers. I don't think you guys should give up any fight, but man it sure sounds like NY isn't the best place to live if you live for off road motorsports.

Working with the sledders, your logic makes a lot of sense. Most of them probably do have quads. IMO, NYS takes care of the sledders. I believe 1/2 their reg $$$ goes back for trails. It's amazing in WNY the number of trails, and the amount of $$$ the state gives these sled clubs. ATV reg $$$ goes into the operations budget and zero goes to quad riders. The only problem with sleds is lack of snow. And even here in Buffalo, despite our reputation, the season is like 4-6 weeks, and then park it. Today our snow is almost all gone and lots of trails are closed

Same here, conditions have worsened that last 7 winters for sledding and a lot of people are converting to ATV's. I've always been a ATVer too, but I finally gave up on the sledding last year and sold it. My guess is a lot of the sledder there are going to end up the same and will be having a rude awakening when they go to ride. Rally em up!

Kenskiv,

Where do you ride? I mostly ride between Lake Luzerne, Warrensburg, and Lake George. I also have trails behind my house here in Saratoga.

Hey Markymannn - Ive looked into trailpass. However Majestic Trails in PA will only give you one free pass a year. Id rather just pay the 35 at Majestic. Ive heard good things about them but never have taken a ride out. Im def. goign to do it soon. Whats your opinion

Ive also seen that trailpass has a site out in Longmeadows Park - Sinclairville, NY. Have you been to this area before? If so how was it. Also do you know anything about the site in CUBA?

If these two sites were decent I would join trailpass because those are the only two that are some what close other then majestic wich is just a supporter not a member of trailpass. At least its a start.

Do you ride anywhere locally? If so we should meet up some time....

I plan on joining Trailpass this year. I joined Nytro 2 years ago, they ran Cuba and Sinclairville. As soon as I sent my money, they shut down, kiss $50 goodbye. I have never come across any one any where that has ever been to Sinclairville. I've brought it up on ATV boards too.

I always join Majestic. Great place to ride, nice people running it, a lot of trails. Good trails, some pretty steep and usually muddy too. Nice MX track on a mountain top, I've got videos to post of that some day.

Locally I've pretty much given up. After a couple run-in's with cops, I don't need the hassle. Although I will try to get back to the brickyard/quarry/op eng school in Hamburg. Erie County budget crap killed Chestnut Ridge riding this year. I'm also going to try back of Delta Sonic in WS

FastEd,

I ride around on my property for the most part...(about 3 acres)

I have a 2 up trailer that I've used to transport my atv to my brothers hunting lease in Warrensburg a couple of times but that's about it...

The pole lines are only 1/4 mi from my house but a won't ride on them until the snow clears...(snowmobilers)

If you have any riding places (ideas) let me know....

thanks!!!
