Default perma cool oil cooler

I have been thinking about getting a oil cooler for my lakota and especially want to now to protect the new top end and to keep it cooler because of the hi compression piston. I found this kit on the permacool website and its only 40 bucks Perma Cool on the bottom of the page. Do any of you know whats involved when installing it, i heard i have to tap into the case which i dont want to do, but i think the lakotas oil lines are above the engine behind the cylindr head. Any help on how this goes together would be great

Why don't you drop them an e-mail and see what they say, maybe ask for your specific bike and if you don't mind, would you ask about the Prairie 650 too? Ask about hooks up location, oil pump capability, mounting location and whatever else you can think of.

I know a few people have been interested in an oil cooler for the 650, if that one works they might have quite a few sales, including one to me.

It says it's universal but is it really?

I'm in the process of putting together an oil cooler kit for the V Twins... that uses a "sandwitch adaptor" from the oil filter... does the Lakota have a screw on oil filter, or an internal paper filter ???

If you are comfortable tapping into those ( make sure they are sufficiently protected, etc... find a repair manual, it will show the flow direction )... I think the Mohave engine is the same layout isn't it ??? the kit from permacool would be fine for what you are looking at doing...

sorry... I used "tapping"... I could have used "splice"... but just putting a "T" in each line is not the answer... you'll want to route all the oil from one of the lines ( the oil coming from the head would be best ), through the cooler, then back into the other end of that line, which likely returns to the crank case... barbed connectors & hose clamps should be sufficient...

I'm assuming here that that engine uses an oil pump ( which I'm sure it does ) rather than a splash aroud system like some of the lawn mower engines... ( no offense meant on the lawn mower comment )
