Rear oil seals
#1
I was about to change my left rear oil seal when I noticed a little leak on the right side. I have read some posts on people saying that the right side seals are the same as the left but there are not part numbers for the right seals because Kawasaki wants you to buy the whole cover for the right side.
Has anyone actually replaced the rear right oil seals and if so are they in fact the same seals as on the left side and was it any more difficult than doing the left side.
Thanks for any info.

they are the same seals as the left side. i just did mine last month. the only trouble you will see on the right side is a bearing. this is how i removed it. i put a clean rag down on my work table. then slamed it down making sure i hit the table flat, a couple hits and it will come out. then install the seals and beat the bearing back into the cover, witch i used a hammer and made sure i drove it in streight slowly. slap it back on and your done.

Do you still have to remove that bearing if you simply replace the entire right cover (instead of only installing the seals without replacing the cover)?
Just curious b/c my right rear seal is now starting to leak and I'm trying to decide the easiest way to replace those seals (entire right cover vs. just replacing those little seals).

mikeyboy.
i looked at kawies web site pn# 16146-1211 is for the whole right side with bearing. i went to ronayres.com and just looked up the price for ya,$69.95. were as you can get the seals for under $20 bucks. its up to you, but me personaly i just nock out the bearing.
if you look at the newer p and v-forces they have little black cups that go over the axl by the rear seals. the 02p has the notch allready cut into them to receive those cups, there only 5 bucks each. this will help a little to keep mud away from the seals. JMO but well worth the extra coin and will still have the cash to get those replacement progressive springs.

Thanks for the reply's. I'll be ordering the right side seals today and the boots if I can get them. I don't have to remove the axle to do the right side do I? I'm hoping I can just remove the bolts holding the right plate and it will just slide off like the left side.
Thanks again guys.
Thanks again guys.

Just ordered the parts. Kawi wants 231.36 for the right cover assembly. Seals came to a whopping 36.47, that includes the inner and outter seals, boot covers and o ring for the right side.

Thanx for the reply. I have mixed feelings about those little black cups that cover the seals. I thought about adding them to my P650 at one time, but I've read at least a few folks who took theirs off their P700 b/c they kept finding sand/mud that got past them and were rubbing against the seals. Those folks told me that they kept having to pop them loose to spray water behind them after every ride to keep them clean and they finally cut them off altogether b/c it was just a pain to do and not really helping keep all mud/sand away from the seals.
