CDI = Wheelie time

Got my new CDI yesterday pm. Put it on this morning and it wouldn't start...had it in neutral with the brake locked on, released the brake and it started right up. Wonder what's the deal on that?
The bike has 59 miles on it, so not broken in all the way. Tried to wheelie in my concrete driveway, and couldn't do it, but close. Went around the neighborhood, stopped to look at a new house under construction. Got interested in the house, forgot the CDI, took off and the nose came up about two feet. Scared the hell out of me, couldn't get it back down quick enough!
Need to go on some long rides to prove it out, but so far so good! Don't give up yet guys.

My directions said disconnect battery, install new CDI, reconnect battery. Maybe the recommended sequence energizes the CDI or you stopping & turning you bike off did it. I DEFINATELY Don't have any problem pulling front end up with throttle lever. Just gas it over 1/2 throttle [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img][img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

tuff: Do you have the same situation where it has to be in neutral and no brake to start?
With the oem igniter, it would start in any gear with the brake on, or neutral with brake on or off. Now it won't start in any gear with the brake on. Doesn't sound too good if I shut it off, then try to start it on a steep hill.

I Haven't tried Starting it in gear with the brake on. Presently, my quad is up on jack stands, CVT cover off, and all the front plastic off. Prepping it to do clutch mod and replace front Shocks & Springs. I'll give you a shout when I put everything back together.

travelor: disregard my concerns regrading dynatek not starting etc. I guess the igniter and the bike synchronized. Today I could start in any gear, brake on or not. I am very satisfied with my new CDI. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

I see the new CDI Over-revved your Pucker Valve? It definlely unleased the Beast in the Prairie engine. Try the Dalton Orange/Blue primary and you'll have to reset your Pucker-valve again.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img][img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

i have to orange blue spring in mine and no cdi and it pulls the wheels with no problem.
i find it revs up to about 2000 rpms befor it engauges then it moves off like it did with the stock spring unless you nail it then it leeps and pulls the tires.
the one thing i dont care for is when your going down a steep hill the clutch disengauges at 4 to 5 kilometers ( 2 to 3 mph) and it starts to free wheel and i need to blip the throttle to get it to engauge again.
but other then that i like it.
my buddy told me that there is this place making a new type of cdi and it will be out within the next month or two so im going to wait and see what happens with that.
i have one question and that is.
do you guys feel that much differance in power with the cdi box change.
i have looked at some dyno charts on the cdi on the hi lifter web page and they say it will give you almost a 5hp gain what do you guys think, is it that much.
the dyno test was on a 650 they dont have any tests with the 700p but the 650 is very much the same with just a bit less bore so im thinking that the results would be almost the same.
