MY P650 that I just recently purchased has 27" tires on it, the guy I bought it from gave me an EPI black spring and said he was told it should be installed. I put it in this morning and the quad feels exactly the same spins the tires the same when I juice it. Should I feel a different grab during take off?

THe quad has under 100 miles on it, when I was reasembling it I noticed the belt deflection was greater than 1.06 inches as recomended in the service manual. The deflection was closer to 1.5 inches but that was during reasembly, the manual does not say whether the delfection should be verified after running the machine.

 

Are you sure the belt was at the top of the secondary clutch when you put it back together? Sometimes the belt is loose when you put it back on.....you can tighten it up by turning the secondary nut ccw, that brings it back up to the top of the clutch and makes it tighter.

Is it squealing on takeoff? If so, you need to remove shims, check it, do it again til it's in spec. Then you don't have it squealing on takeoff or small squeal when you shift into gear (too tight). You probably know all this.

In answer to your question, no, you won't feel any more power by installing the secondary spring. That black spring is just to extend belt life by gripping it tighter.

If it's not squealing at all, starting off or while in gear, it probably tightened up when you started it.

 

No squeeling, it feels exactly like it did when I bought it with 76 miles on it. I guess I was expecting a little stronger/more sudden pull from a dead stop.

Pretty easy job, I have never touched a CVT clutch before, I built the NYROC tool from steel, worked great. Whole job took less than an hour.

My Dyna CDI is due in any day, I hope I get a good one as I bought it from a Dyna dealer in Derry NH, I don't want to have to deal with warranty.

 

You won't tell any difference on initial takeoff after you are moving a little it should run a little higher RPM for the same speed and have better backshifting , meaning when you let off the gas it should slow down quicker.

If you want more snap and torque down low to get those 27" tires moving try the Dalton Orange/Blue or the EPI Red Primary spring.

The Epi Red has a stall about 100-200 more RPM than the Orange/Blue Dalton.
