650 Fan Running
My neighbor and I just bought "new to us" ATV's a couple of weeks ago and just actually got out for the 1st time on them this weekend. I have a 2003 Kawasaki 650 (use to have a 400 Kawasaki) and my neighbor has a 2002 Kawasaki 650. We went out on the river and were driving for about 2 hours or so in the snow and on a few trails. While out on the ice, we were driving between 50-60kmh and these bikes still had lots of power to give.... amazing machines!!! Not something we plan on doing a lot of... driving fast that is.... but fun nonetheless! We both went the same distance, speed and on the same trails using both high and low gear and in 4 wheel drive and when we stopped for a break to take in the scenery, his fan went for about 7-10 minutes or so and my didn't even come on. Should this be a concern? Why would the fan on one bike go and the other not? Both are topped up in coolant... It was a concern to both.... not sure who's bike may not be working right in the middle of no man's land!!! Thaks

Did one seem warmer than the other?
Maybe ones running leaner (hotter)?
Both running the same oil? Could the one that ran hotter be running light/used-up oil, while the other maybe has a 5-50 or 5-40 syn ect, somthing like that ?
Check the coolants with a ball tester thing, maybe one got contaminated or somone had a leak and just added water?
I think it will be hard to do apples to apples. Let me know what you find.
Good luck.

Your buddy's radiator, Pre radiator Brush screen, and or engine was probably clogged with mud or Ice. Take a look and clean with a low pressure garden hose old type pointed brass screw open spray nozzel. Also, Hopefully your buddy was not driving with his brake on.
Happy trails,

Could be your fan fuse is blown, happened to me. Just something else to check out. I dont know where it is on the 650, but on mine its down behind the splash shield behind the front left tire. Just an aside: I found my bike ran hotter and had way more fan action with the thick 50 weight oil and runs cooler with less need for a fan with a regular 10w30 or 10w40. Thats funny because everyone recomends heavy oils in the summer.

Ron,
You just have one h*ll of a fine working machine ...that's all. The guy ya bought it from musta taken some frigg'n good care of it !!!!!!! More than likely your rad is just alot cleaner than 7mile's..oops...you're neighbors i mean....oh...and yours isn't 100% stock either......but shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone.....Plus, the fact that no two engines, even if they're identical, will run completely alike.
Hope you're pleased with it Ron.
