Default Praire 650 belt tripped ?

I have 103 hours on my 2003 Praire 650,the engine just started to lose power and backfire...the belt light never came on at 100 hours which it was suppose to....is the switch tripped?

The ones I have seen came on around 100 hours and not exactly at 100 hours. When the light comes on then it's just a reminder and did not make it run poorly.Yours could actually be tripped but that sounds a little early.I would take the cover off an inspect it.The reset procedure is easy.

you might just have a loose belt that tripped the switch intsead of the 100 hour trip. If it is in limp mode you will know it. It wont be a slight decrease in power.

Thanks for the info,
It was more than a slight decrease in power,it was almost like both plugs began fouling at the same time,it ran rougher at higher rpm's which makes me think it is a tripped belt switch. It was a surprise though when it happened and not expected especially when you are riding in the mountains in the snow and the sun is setting!!!!

Hey..speaking of spark plugs..any recommendations? I will probably stay with NGK but I am always open to suggestions and when is it a good time to throw in new plugs? I know it's not a bad idea to do it at the beginning of riding season but the atv has been running awesome since I bought it new and didn't see any reason to fix something that wasn't broken....if you know what I mean!

My 700 Prairrie went into limp mode right at 50 hours. Yours sounds exactly the same as mine. Of course I had to bring it in for new shims and deflection adjustment - my question is - will it di it again at 100 hours???

I talked to a tech a my dealer today about that he said the belt sensor will trip from a heavy electrical current from an accessory or winch. You have to reset it at every 100 hour mark

I don't know about the other cdi's but if you install a dyna tek cdi it will remove the limp mode not to mention give you added power.

When in limp mode, top speed is about5-10 mph. Above that and it starts to backfire, sputter, and complain. Don't plan on a quick trip home! I would not have bought the KAWA had I known beforehand!!!
