Accessory Connections
#1
I have a 94 Kawasaki Bayou 220 and am looking to purchase a 2 million candle power spotlight. I am wondering if there is a connector that I can hook to my battery/electrical source that will allow me attach the spotlight to a DC type of power? If not, is there any way I can rig something up that will work as well? I am pretty good at making and putting junk together so i can construct almost nething. Any help plz? Thanks.....

Suggestion: Buy an outdoor RV-style (with spring-loaded waterproof cover) automobile-type lighter socket (e.g., at Wal-Mart), mount the socket on your ATV plastic with sheet-metal screws at a convenient place (where the spotlight or other accessory plug has clearance for insertion and removal). Connect the socket directly to the battery by tapping a "hot" and ground wire; fuse the socket separately, and install "bullet" quick-disconnect connectors in both lines, for times when the plastic must be removed from the quad (use a female connector on the battery side of the hot wire).
Now you have a handy-dandy auxiliary electrical connector for your spotlight or any other 12-volt accessory--why don't all ATV manufacturers provide this capability standard?

A fairly common item; the "-Marts," auto accessory/parts stores, RV dealerships ougta have it.
There may be auxiliary light wiring already on your Bayou, as stated on this topic; however, that wiring may only be active when the headlights are on; plus, it may be keyed to high-low beam; also, its connection would be peculiar to the spotlight; the auto-style connector is much more versatile.

If the light that you want to add is a light that won't be removed there are 3 different places that you can connect it. One place is the auxilary accessory plug which is under the seat. It should be somewhere by the fuse relay. It will be a white wire. there is also a black wire, the white is positive and the black is the negative. This is ALWAYS a live power source. There is also another power source that is only active when the ignition switch is turned on. This one is a little bit harder to find. If you take off the rear-right mud flap you should beable to see it. It is above the right rear mud flap (behind the plastic) If you look at the bike from the right side and look at the exhaust pipe, look to the left now behind the plastic. You should beable to see it.Just let me know if you can't find it I might beable to help you a little more about finding it. The last power connection that I know of is behind the "bayou" sticker on the front panel below the handle bars. In the velcrow cover there will be a bunch of wires. The wire that is not in use may be hard to find. it'll be very low and it will be brown in color. ( I had a lot of trouble finding it, you may not beable to see it from the top of the quad you may have to get under it to see it.) this wire is ONLY live when the ignition is on and the lights are either in hi/low. This is the wire that i chose to use since I didn't have to run very much extra wire& because my light turns on whenever the stock lights are on.) If you want your stock lights to only turn on besides the bright light sometimes (as in for running lights) then just add a switch between the wire lead and the light) I hope this helps sorry for the long post. If you need more help about anything that I posted just let me know. You probably will have trouble finding some of the wires, because they are hard to get to. thanks!! and good luck.
