Well, I raced a sp800 and a KQ700 yesterday in drag. The length was just a little more than a quarter of a mile. All machines were stock except for the tires. I have 27" mud lights, the SP800 had stock good years, and the KQ had 27" ITP 589's. We raced 3 different times.

The first race the BF took the lead and never looked back. The KQ was about 1-2 quad lengths behind and the sp800 was about half and quad length behind the KQ.

The second race the BF took the lead, but the KQ was right there about half a quad lenght behind with the sp800 right on the KQ's bumper. At the finish, it was the BF with the KQ about half a quad lenght behind followed by the sp800 at about 2 quad lenghts behind.

The third race was similar to the first. The BF jumped out in front and never looked back. The KQ was about 2 quad lenghts behind and the sp800 was about half a quad lenght behind the KQ.

The top speeds according to 3 garmin GSP units (each quad had one strapped on) was as follows:

BF = 71.5mph
KQ = 70.0mph
SP = 67.5mph

Each rider weighed about 200 pounds and all were in their mid to late thirtys with at least 5 years of ridding.

PS: I raced the KQ700 with my 700prairie and won one of two races. Gotta love that v-twin power.

After we all raced, we each rode each others quad. I was very impressed with the KQ's stability, although the ride was not what I thought it would be. And the sp was awesome for comfort as far as ride.

I've still got the stock tires on and have a Garmin GPS also that showed 67 mph. Just wonderin if the 27"s made a diff. or not.

 

Actually the bigger tires should have slowed him down some. I seen that in every single case.

Did the KQ and/or SP have winches and such that added weight like your Brute and Prairie? On another note, was pagin through some ATV mag that had a shootout between the KQ and Prairie 700, thought they were gonna drool over the KQ and smack down the prairie. I was wrong, I enjoyed the article a lot more than I thought I would.

 

If you had a dg5 power module on your bf hidden the way I due, you would really get them. It would look stock but you would pull ahead of them 5 more quad lengths at least. I raced someone before and after I put on the dg5, than told him I put in new plugs. I always say something new everytime it happens. Carb sinc is a good one to say to. It is always good for a laugh or to.

I don't know if the larger tires made a difference because I put them on right after the break-in point, thus I never had it up passed 40mph. It would reason that the larger tires would slow it down on the take off, but add more to the top end due to a larger circumference. The guy on the KQ is a good friend of mine. He had an older yamaha griz 600 and bought the new KQ about a month ago. The other guy on the sp800 is one of his co-workers. We rode near Hardin, Texas and my families ranch. The drag was on an old country road. Just to let you know in all honesty, that I ran the middle race. My friend with the KQ had his brother there and he races a raptor on tracks, so I let him race it the 1st and third time. To be honest, going that fast was too scary for me. That was probably why the 2nd race was so close....because I raced it. When we finished, I told Glen he could race for me.....So I took his raptor to the finish line for the next race.

 

yea, I have an 800 and my buddie has the bf750. We were the same out the hole. We both had to sit on the gas tanks. I was a little ahead. In the mid. the v-twin realy showes it torque. he pulled by me. However he only got out like 2 quads, then I stopped his pull and I pulled him back in. I even got beside him and then let off. he is on stock tires. He topped at 67. I have no idea where I was. I would like to think 69-70. You are right. the bigger tires will give you more MPH. The torque your bike makes will turn them easily on the big end. I know of 2 prarie 650's that went to 26's or 27's and they picked up as well. I can't believe the tires you guys get on your bikes from the factory. They are horable.....I know stability and traction will be greatly added with a nicer tire.

 

Yes, I agree with you that the stock tires suck. I really enjoy the 27" mudlites that I have now. That is one thing that polaris does really well is they put good tires on their sportsmans and they offer great accessories. Most of the accessories I have for my 700prairie and 750BF are aftermarket, but polaris make most of their own accessories.
