I have a prairie 400 that makes a sound like a gear slipping at high rpm when I give it gas from a stop in high gear, it starts out fine then starts to slip, also looses all power to the wheels when this happens but the engine sounds great. Can someone tell me what has gone wrong? I have looked thru pages of posts but haven't found a solid solution to this problem. Thanks,

Inspect CVT belt for serviceability & adjust your belt deflection within specs. If belt is frayed/burn/slick spots get you a new belt & adjust deflection.

Hey Sam. I'm kinda toyin' with the idea of a 400 Prairie myself, a '99. how's the engine braking down hills and stiff like that? Is it watercooled? I've had reservations about that CVT until now..
Thanks

The belt is newly replaced, but may be out of spec. I will check it out. Thanks,
Do you think that the problem may have any thing to do with the spline gear going to the drive shaft?

I haven't had any problems with it until this happened, I have a TRX 250X that is fun, but not nearly the Cadillac or Tank that the Prairie is.
