2001 Mojave 250 Running problems.. quits
Ive got a Mojave 250 that probably has less than 20hrs riding on it.. It ran PERFECT til I let it sit at my parents for about 3mos then it would not start. I tried everything & it would not start.
I have now rebuilt the carb & it cranked RIGHT UP on 2nd kick & idled fine after being down for over a year... BUT.. when I put it in gear & try to ride it.. it seems to bog..
THEN after about 2 minutes of riding when it warms up.. it diesels down & quits & will not start again until it has cooled off..
ANY idea what the deal is? It seems to be getting plenty of gas & has a clean filter, new plug is sparking good (checked it before installing)..
Please email me at HillbillySims@aol.com Thanks a whole lot!

Choke seems to be working fine as far as I can tell when adjusting it..? I had a buddy who has a mojave come by & he seemed to think there may be something wrong with the valves or need adjustment?
Again heres some more info.. it cranks VERY easy & idles great (with the choke off too)... I can ride it for about maybe 45 seconds to a minute & all of a sudden it just wont take the gas & quits...
When it quits.. it will NOT crank back up until it has cooled off... once it cools off.. it cranks easily again
(also it doesnt "sound" right.. like.. i dont want to say its knocking.. but its got like a somewhat pinging/slight knock in the motor when riding..
I called the local Kawasaki shop & some redneck there said "Bring it in.. we can probably get it straightened out for $450-$500".... Needless to say I dont want to get screwed over by "Big Hearted Smitty" down at the shop if its something simple.

Check the gas cap vent hose, if the hose is plugged thats about all the longer it will run.
Or when it starts take the gas cap off and see if it still quits, if it doesn't quit its the cap vent. It could also be the gas line filter inside the tank is plugging up and starving it for fuel. Open the bowl drain on the carb and see if the gas continuosly flows out a cup of fuel which would be more than the carb and line hold and would mean everything is fine with the tank filter.
Just some thoughts on the easy things
Now the fun stuff
The mojave top ends are touchy to say the least, adjust the valves and while you doing that check the cams for wear( my 1st engine wore the cams out) then check if you can turn the valve spings when the rocker aren't touching them. If you can turn them the valves are sucking into the head!(my 2nd engine had this problem!)
I just put a new head on my second engine this past weekend.....Damn Mojaves!
