Default Kawi 300 4x4 valve lash

My friend has a kawi 300 4x4. lately it has been making bad ticking noises from the top end. he has no manual does anyone know the valve lash on this quad? I am hoping that is all it is but deep down inside i think maybe stretched timing chain may be the issue. it has lost a lil power. it is a ticking sound not a knock.

I don't have a manual for a 300 anymore, but you can go to www.buykawasaki.com. Go to "Owner Info" at the top of the page and then go to "parts diagrams". Once you find your year/model/etc. you will have an option of "specifications". It should be listed there. Is it a Bayou or a Prairie? (although I think the engines are similar)

The specs that you want are.

IN 0.10 ~ 0.15 mm
EX 0.15 ~ 0.20 mm

I had the same type of noise on mine. I did not take care of the problem and ended up breaking the tab on the cam gear. When it let loose it bent both valves.(lucky they did not go through the piston). I would recommend changing the timing chain very, very soon. My chain had severe strech.
