need help with kfx400

Im needing some help with timing i just bought a 2003 kfx 400 for 500 and the engine is locked up and i have parts to fix it but when i change the piston a cylider on it how do i keep it on time. i know i have to keep tension on the chain what else do i have to do help please

yes I have helped my friend rebuild his grizzly 660, a 300ex and a kx80... i know friend held his time chain in with zip ties tied to the frame but does it matter if the chains move cause i know theres markings on the cam for timing

Take the plug out and make sure the piston is at the top of the stroke. or on the LH side of the engine there is a plastic cap you can take out and look at the timing make on the fly wheel.
