I have high, low, neutral and reverse on my prairies with 2wd or 4wd in high or low gear. Do you have another, higher gear? Just trying to understand.

Usually, the only time I get a backfire is when I decelerate, especially at high altitude. Is the pop you are hearing a backfire or is it some kind of mechanical sound?

Popping is normal in reverse Speed is retarded so you don't get "Reverse Wheelies." or try and go as fast backwards as you do forward.
