i have wanted a dirtbike all my life but i decided 2 years ago im gonna get a quad instead. i finally got it and its been fun but its not craving my urge for a dirt bike. i had a talk with the parents and they say if i do good in school i can finance one.

now here is my question i am 175 pounds 6 feet tall what is a good dirt bike i was thinking about the kx 100. i ride trails steep hills very rocky. my friends ride yz's and cr's so im not worried about the whole its a racing 2-stroke bike. im not to good on a bike but its what i want. do you think the kx100 is a good bike and if not can you give me some suggestions

If you are going to be riding trails, etc I would personally get one of the 4-stroke bikes.

I would recommend a YZ250F, KX250F, or a CRF250F

I think those would be the perfect bike.

Actually, get the CRF250X, same motor as the 250 MX bikes just with some minor changes and it has a headlight.

That would be PERFECT.

If you are getting a 250 4-stroke, I would recomend the Yamaha 250f because they are really the only reliable 250 4-stroke as long as you change the oil frequently. The Honda 250f is a great bike, but it requires lots o maintnance.

The KX100 might be a bit small since you are 6ft. If you are wanting a 2-stroke, then I recomend the KDX220 or 200. They are great trail bikes. Or if your really a newbie to 2 wheels, the crf230 is a great, reliable trail bike.

Any high performance 4-stroke is going to require maintaince. Not, it's not a bunch of maintaince either. Just normal stuff.. new oil and oil filter, clear air filter, keep valves adjusted, and so on.

Normal maintaince that you will HAVE to do to ANY high performance 4-stroke motor. Get the CRF250X, best of both worlds, has the 250 4-stroke MX motor in it just with some gearing changes, etc and a headlight for the trails.

My friend has a '77 Honda XL175 four stroke. That thing is fun, and it sounds just like my bayou 185.

Get a 200. My buddy has one and it can climb a tree with the right rider. I didn't really like it because I like two strokes, but that's just me.

Pick up a used YZ125 or CR125 they are cheap with lots of aftermarket parts and really easy to work on and tweak. I would buy a 450 over a 250 4 stroke. The little bikes really have to rev hard to produce power and the cost is almost the same for a 250 and a 450..
