take the cap off, you will see a white colored insert in the tank neck, just pull it out, it is about 8-9 inches long.....can't really see why it needs to be in there anyway....i guess to keep from overfilling..........

You can't compare your DS650 to the Brute. The BF has a belt transmission, shaft drive, 4 wheel drive, and weighs more than your DS650. I have a KLR650 that goes 45 miles on 1 gallon. It means little if you don't comapare apples to apples.
They are comparing the horsepower and relative poor gas milage to other quads in its class.

My gas milage is not nearly as good as my 650 Cat but that's not why I bought it in the first place.
I was told by the dealer that the white gas tank insert was to keep the neck from being crushed if too much force was applied when tightening the cap.

OK, thanks for the tip on the White Tube.
I pulled mine out before our Sundays ride, note the gas indicator Bar was reading full, I was able to get another .85 gallons in for top-off. While out riding, I thought my gas indicator was broken, as it took 29 miles before I dropped down off of the top gas indicator bar, before all I had to do was go 17 miles and I already had a lower reading on the gas indicator.
I noticed the Bomb O800 that was in our Group also has this White tube.

The white tube is to give the tank room for fuel expansion. If you fill the tank to the top and the fuel heats up it will expand and swell tank if it does not have any airspace in it.
I would only top off without the tube just before heading out on a ride!!!! Much safer!!
