Default Kawa BF 750 gas mileage

I have a 2005 BF 750 and I'm getting terrible mileage. On level ground I get 14 mpg/ 75 miles to a tank( 5.4 gal) and I just returned from the backcountry of Baja where I got 7mpg/ 35 miles to a tank on mixed trails of level and very steep terrain. I had to turn around and start heading back to the truck after 15 miles. Myself and gear weigh about 350 lbs.

I bought this atv to be able to travel deep into the Baja desert. I love the engine and size of this machine. The suspension feels unstable on rough, steep hills though. The only other problem is the engine pops like crazy when it's cold or idling.

I called the dealer and he just said it's a big machine! My Escalade gets better mileage than this thing! I asked him to call Kawa and he said they haven't got back to him.( 2 months later) Anybody getting similar mileage? Also, does the warranty cover the carb fix for the popping? He said it doesn't.

Thanks for any help on these questions. Bob

mine gets crappy mileage too, there's a trick to get at least a 1/2 a gallon more gas into it. Before you start filling it, remove the white insert in the neck of the fuel tank filler. If you want to see exactly how much extra you can get, fill it up with the insert in there and then take it out and keep pouring. I get 1/2 to an extra gallon in there that way. The popping is due to a lean condition in the front carb, there was a TSB on it and yes it's a free fix. as far as your suspention, its probably the wheels and tires giving you that "tippy" feeling, the stockers suck! I put ITP "C" series rims on mine with Holeshot ATR radial tires, it was a night and day difference. With the offset rims, the machine is now 6 inches wider in the back, and 3 inches wider in the front and it handles much much better, got rid of all the side-to-side roll. Are they still putting Dunflop radials on them at the factory? those are the worst tires you can buy.

I take the white tube out when I fill up and can get close to 100 miles on a tank of gas. The more you run in low the lower you MPG will be.

I agree, not good or great mpg.
In the High Rockies of Colorado and in low 4x4 I got a very low 10 mpg, at other times I have been able to get 16mpg in 2H.
Carry extra gas, lots of options available to do so.
I use the 3.25 gallon fuel pack which at times will take 3.7 Gallons to fill..

I don't understand it, you bought a 750 cc 4X4 quad and are expecting good gas mileage? I bet with that 750cc's of fun factor, the throttle stays close to pinned a lot of the time as well. Try matting your Escalade the same way and see what kind of MPG you get. If you want good mileage, I suggest smaller cc's and 2X4, you should have known going in that you weren't going to get good mileage.

I understand his concern, 10mpg is way out of wack.

The best I got with my 650Prairie is 50kpg, about 30mpg. This was on all logging roads in 4x4 (switch broke) with very little trail. I usually get over 20mpg unless in heavy snow, that seems to be the worse for fuel milage, the sand is likely sucking your gas up some.

The 800 Bombardier is getting well over 20, like 25 mpg.

Trade the pig,

It's the price you pay for horsepower. If yor so hip on gas milage. You should get a honda 250 recon instead.

I get about 60 or 70 miles out of a tank of gas on my V-force. So, I get around 20 or so miles to gallon.

Not too bad for the big 700 twin....I'm not easy on the throttle either.

I don't feel that the mpg is all that bad really. I get close to the same range as my wife on her Grizz and my Bro in law on his Polaris 700EFI. I have a larger tank, but I consider range the most important facor not MPG. I use the flat tanks and strap them to my front rack.

I have a little Bear Tracker that might actually be making gas some how. This little quad has about 150 mile range with my 95lb son driving it.

Guys, do you leave the white insert out all the time? or do you put it back after you get it filled up???
