Default 03 kfx400 help

We need a little help my friend just picked a 2003 kfx 400 a few problems need to be solved and fixed. (1) the battery does not stay charged. Using the headlights will drain it in a few mins. (2) there is a noise comming from the engine sounds like pinning don't know if it the valves, timing chain or what. (3) the starter button works speraticly but not much anymore so if you take a screwdriver and jump the + & - scerw termanals on the starter switch under the seat it will start. and when using the button and putting my ear to the starter switch i hear it humming but doesn't start it, is it faulty and needs to be replaced or can it be something else. But other then that its fast runs strong and is a nice overall machine.
Any help on these issues will be greatly appreciate THANKS.

Not 100% sure but I'd say the battery might be bad. I left my key on for 2 or 3 days, drained my battery dead, even after I recharged the battery I'd only get one start and it was dead again. Replaced the battery and problem solved. With the button not working as it should there might be a short somewhere.

i would start bye replacing the battery the humming from the starter is probly it trying to go but it not having a nuff juice....if your hearing something from the motor like a slapping or a ticking i am almost sure its the timing chain..and easy way to see if this is the problem is to pull the cam chain tensioner out and if it is maxed out u know this is the problem...having to replace a cam chain is not as hard as it sounds....i would bet these are your problems i have a 03 kfx my self and have replaced the battery and cam chain both within the past 1 year
