Prairie 360 fuse problem
#1
Hey folks! Got to let everyone in on something strange I found on my 06 360.
I picked it up last week, new off the showroom floor. Went to the local sporting goods store and bought an ATV spot light for it.
I took it out of town the next day, and that night plugged in my spotlight. Nothing!
So I replaced the fuse, which had blown, with the factory replacement that these bikes come with. Well that also blew right away.
So I get home and read my owners manual, (should have done that to begin with) and it says the accessory fuse is a 10A. A 10a?
The one I took out of the bike, and the replacement both supplied by Kawasaki were 5A fuses. WTF?
I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem.
Why would the manual say one thing, but the bike be equipped with something else?
Anyway now that I have what the book says is the correct fuse, everything works great!

Sheriff:
I don't have the owners manual handy for the P360 so I checked the service manual. This is for our machine which is a bit older than yours.
I could find no listing for all fuses but on the wiring diagram the accessory fuse is listed as a 5 Amp. I could find no 10 Amp fuse listed anywhere. The oil cooler fan calls for a 20 Amp, the drive belt failure system uses a 5 Amp and the main fuse calls for a 30 Amp.
There must have been a change since our machine was built, perhaps the guy putting in the fuses at the factory was not informed.

Sheriff,
What color was the fuse that blew on you?
I checked buddy's '06 360 and it's got 10 amp fuse for both acc. and spare. Also, what is the power wattage of your spoet light?
Hey there.
I don't remember the color of the acc fuse, or the replacement fuse as I was pretty frustrated when I found out they were wrong.
As for the spot light, I bought it at the Kawasaki dealership. The box advised it was an "ATV Spotlight" so the wattage on it is up to specs with what the manual says is the min/max.

The correct fuse should have a YELLOW filament inside, and the YELLOW color designates 10 amp and that provides 120 watts = 10 amp x 12 volts. Since my buddy's 360 has no problem using 10 amp fuse (it came like that from dealer/factory), I think it should be safe for you to use a 10 amp as well. As long as your spot light's power consumption does not exceed 120 watts.

Hey there! Thanks for the fuse advice.
I looked at the old 5 amp fuses and it appeared the filiment was orange. I'm just glad it was an easy fix. When the acc didn't work I thought I was going to have to take the bike back inito the dealer for major work. Thanks again for all the advice! Next project: black clutch spring. I'll let ya'll know how that goes!

This is very interesting, I have an 03, & my damn fuse blows constantly, 40% of the time I use my air pump or anything else from that outlet, I wonder if I have a 5amp fuse, I had better check tonight, might be just the ticket

If you have '03 360, I think your circuit is rated for only 60 watts and that's why it has a 5-amp fuse. Not only on the 360 but on other pre-'04 KVF models as well. Installing a 10 amp fuse on the 5-amp rated circuit is obviously not a good idea. What you can do is to rewire the power outlet circuit using a 10-amp gage wires from the outlet to the battery. Or make a second power outlet on the right side so you have 2 outlets of different power ratings. That shouldn't be too difficult.
