It's funny to realize that such a simple solution is, well the solution.

Now, here's another thing to consider.

If we let the government tell the industry they can't charge x amount of dollars for their product, what's to stop them from telling the companies we work for now, they are charging too much for whatever product they produce/sell?

Wannabe is right. We have ourselves to balme. Remember, government intervention is rarely short term. Income tax was originally a temporary thing and look how long it's been around.

I really don't buy the fact that if we cut back oil consumption in this country by 1/2 that oil prices would come down. What incentives would the oil companies have to lower prices when they couldn't sell as much as they used to? They are out for profits, and they will get their profits. Cutting back on consumption would not make them lower prices. If anything, they would raise their prices to make up for less consumption. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Normal laws of "supply and demand" would work by bringing down prices, but we are not dealing with normal laws here. We are dealing with pure greed by the oil companies. Gouging, well no company can justify 47 BILLION DOLLAR profits without doing just that!

Here you go Lincous...and I don't work for an oil company nor am I happy about a 400 million dollar severence (sp) package. I'm still going to put it on "our" shoulders. Why don't we have alternative methods in full use right now? GREED. Pure and simple. We want the biggest truck. We want new cars. We want to go where we want and when we want. We don't want to ride the bus. What if everyone put their ego aside and kept cars for say 7 years? What would happen? Car makers would freak. They would do studies and everyone responds, "I want a more efficient car" Then they make more efficient, hybrid, solar powered, foot pedaled cars. Oops we just found an alternative. Hmmm, who would want us back? Gas stations. We, me and you, are driving the price of gas and have been. Pure and simple. I hate the prices too. I have vehicles parked simply for the "wallet smack" it would take to gas 'em up. But the bottom line is....sit down...we want our cake and eat it too.

FYI-compare the profit per gallon to the oil companies against the tax per gallon to your state. Who you mad at now? Oh yeah, do we REALLY want the government telling people what they can and cannot make money wise?

ONE MORE AND THAT IS IT
Alaskan reserves? Screw the moose lovers. A 9 billion barrel pocket 50 miles off the coast of Florida? No, scared of a spill. BTW-the Chinese are getting ready to tap it. Windmills produce electricity...nope they look ugly (Ask Teddy boy about it)

I agree, it's time to stand up and do something. Before we can do that we have to look in the mirror.

You might be dumb enough to headbutt a unicorn......So what! some people like to drive big trucks..some people like to keep there house warmer than others...but one thing is for sure...Exxon has set priorities on greed an money no matter the cost to americans.

Also...I have no problem with someone filling up a big truck with fuel...I just hope they have enough commonsense to drive past the exxon station

Over the head. That's why I try not to get into politics or any common sense discussion with most people. Dude, drive what you want. No problem. But it is YOUR choice to drive something that gets 15 mpg vs. 30. Oh, sorry again. I'm blaming the people. My bad.

I like this one..."I hope they have enough common sense to drive past the exxon station"

If I do decide to headbutt a unicorn I guess it's going to be your fault since you mentioned it.

"Exxon has set priorities on greed...." 1.Why didn't you include all gas/oil companies and 2. Where are our priorities, HONESTLY. Dang...I'm blaming us again. I've got to quit

you americans think you got it bad??? I live in alberta, we're practicly floating on the stuff, there's 3 very large refineries about 3 miles from my house and gas is going up to $1.18/Ltr tommorow. Right around 4 1/2 bucks per gallon. How do you think we feel. Might have to trade the truck in for a scooter

I think it will work. Better than sitting on your thumb, switching hands. I learned in offshore drilling when the seas came up and you got 300 tons swinging more and more, you got to do something, right or wrong. Let's at least try.
