Shipped my old P650 motor today
#1
In case anyone is curious about how to ship a Prairie 650 motor, I am happy to report that I dropped off my P650 motor today at a Greyhound Bus Station to ship it to the buyer located in another state (the package will travel from Houston, TX to Mobile, AL).
COST
It cost me $117 to ship it via Greyhound Bus plus the cost of the container/materials and 5 gallons of gas to drive to the bus station and back (only certain Greyhound bus stations will handle packages up to 150 lbs, so I could not use my local Greyhound Bus Station)...my TOTAL shipping cost was about $150 (luckily, that is the same amount that I charged the buyer for shipping).
SHIPPING CONTAINER
I bought a 35 gallon Rubbermaid plastic storage container from Walmart and inserted a piece of plywood at the bottom for more support. To keep the motor from rocking from side to side, I used a piece of 1x2 board attached to the plywood as a support for the bottom of the motor. I also applied newspaper/packing material on the sides of the motor where it touches the sides of the container. I duct taped the lid down and attached the label on the outside. All in all, this made for a light weight and fairly sturdy container. I'm very fortunate that it weighed in at 143.1 lbs because the MAX weight of any single package handled by Greyhound is 150 lbs!!!
Let's just hope it arrives in Mobile in one piece (I bought shipping insurance just in case).
