STAY AWAY from the mohavi,im sure i wont be the only one saying this either. There are many problems with this machine.A good choice would be a honda 300ex or a older 250x for their dependability.Just stay away from that kawi,I made the mastake of getting one and sold it for a majour loss.

I would have to disagree with x250rDude. A Mojave is a good solid machine. Top speed is around 55 MPH. It has good handling manners too if you can take the bull by the horns so to speak. I can put it all over a 300EX easily in speed and handling.

However, I think she would be happier with the Lakota. It's the same chasis with a 300cc and an auto-clutch. Unless she likes a manual clutch I wouldn't recommend the Mojave.

I haev had no problems with mine i think it has a nice power band and with some slight mods like a high flow air filer like k&n($60) and a pipe($250) it can be more powerfull than a 300ex... This is according to dirtwheels... i like my bike and my wife fits it realy well... she is 5'4" 125lb

i have seen it rated althe way from 54mph to 60mph

all around good buy

I also disagree with xr250dude. I owned a 250X and it was not great as the magazines made it out to be. My bro had a Mojave a few years ago and I thought it was a great machine. I'm looking to buy one this spring so I'd recommend it. The post about the Lakota had merit. If you wife has trouble with a manual clutch she would prefer the autoclutch Lakota. The only drawback to the Lakota is that it weighs 70 lbs more than an already porky Mojave at 380lbs.

I also disagree with xr guy . i have a 99 Mojave and never had a problem with it yet. I also like the liquid cooled motor. I also have a 91 250x. It seems that the 250x after runni9ng for a whiule start to lack power. the mojave will just keep running. Also the reverse on the mojave is better and easier to use than the 250x/300ex. I am in Phila Paif u are looking for a good used one drop me a line

I have a 2000 Mojave and I love it! I've owned a Suzuki Quadsport and quadracer, and my MO-jave is my favorite. It suprised me how fast it was after I got it home from the dealer. I was going to get a 400ex, but opted for the Green Machine. The Lakota is a better choice if a manual clutch isn't desired. Let the good times roll!!!!

Go to http://www.tunnelhillmx.com/round10.html to see some pics of me on my bike at a local race.

x250rDude, too bad you had a bad experence with one. I've owned two of them ('87 and now a Y2K), and have had no problems at all. Plenty of low end power, predictable handeling and darned reliable. Its a great bike. If your wife won't mind the kick start, she won't be disappointed.
