i use Mobil 1 MX4T 10-W-40 in mine (since first oil change). some guys will say not to break in with synthetic, but Corvette and Porshe (and a few others) come from the factory with Mobil 1 in the engine.

as far as filter, there are quite a few. i use the K&N (kn-204) or the Mobil 1 (m1-110) because they are made for synthetics, but any filter that will fit a Mazda Miata will work on a brute. there is an oil filter interchange thread in the tich tips (the Prarie section) at Nyroc's site with ten or fifteen different filters that will fit.

I didnt use synthetic for the break in, because it helps the ring seat better(so im told be a lube tech) but after break in, i used amsoil. Im thinking of switching now to maxima ester based synthetic, i hear it cant be beat by anyone else.

I use the Mobil 1 MX4T 10W-40 since the 10 hour/100 mile break-in period. I am going to check out the Rotella T synthetic as it is like 9 bucks I think for 4 quarts. This MX4T stuff is tough to find costs an arm and a leg at 9 something a quart!

As for the filter, I use the standard Kawasaki OEM filter, but may switch to the Walmart Supertech filters as I have used them in my car for a long time now.

In the rear, I use the Kawi Chem wet brake oil. I was going to get the Mobil stuff but I figured why bother as it is hard to find and expensive.

As for that ester based stuff, I have had good luck with Mobil 1 and other synthetics and do not know if the ester would offer superior protection vs. the price. That stuff is pricey!

BOSCH 3300 for the filter from your local autozone for 5bucks I did a comparison on highlifter site not too long ago, compared several filters and the bosch filtered better than any I tried although I didnt try the K&N. but it did filter better than a wix and thats a premium filter. as for oil in the motor you can use any automobile oil you choose because there are no clutches to worry about. so you get to use the best types of oil on the market just look for something that has an antifoaming additive or just use a synthetic,I use quakerstate 4x4 full synthetic it doesnt foam up and works well in high RPM engine and is cheap enough to replace when you want too instead of waiting full length for oil changes. I use valvoline 4stroke motorcycle oil for the front diff because of the locker. for the rear you can use supertech transhydrolic fluid from walmart its safe for wetbrakes and will cost you about 9 dollars for 2 gallons.

So this quad does not have a wet clutch. I was under the impression that it did. So using a good truck or auto oil will work out fine? I just want to make sure that I put the right oil in. They cost to much to goof that up. Thanks for the info......

Keep in mind the manual specs the oil must have these quality:

on page 127 for Kaw BF 650i

Grade: API SF or SG
API SH or SL with JASO MA
SAE 10W-40 for 14 F to 104 F
SAE 20W-50 for 32 F to beyond 104F

I was tempted to use those automotive syn oils and found out none of them pass the specs the manual needs. The only ones I found with the rating the manual requires were the specific ATV or Motorcycle oils. Automotive oils usually rated for 6,500 RPM continuous and motorcycle oils are rated beyond 15,000 RPMS.

Just heads up....

The shell rotella t is some good stuff and should work very well in the kawi v twin. It is labeled as diesel oil but if you read up on it this will work great in our motors.

Back in May I was going to use the Rotella, but then I was told that the ash content is high for ATVs. Then recently I heard that Rotella's web site says it is great for quads. I have been using Amsoil and I will stick with it. Works great for me.
