BEST WINCH FOR A BF750???
#1
My brother and I bought two 2000# winches from Harbor freight for $49 each. He installed his on his prairie 360. I have yet to install mine, but I have noticed when he uses his, the break doesn't work very well. It will slowly creep off the spool. So, now I am wondering if I should install mine or buy a better grade. Here are my questions. 1) What size winch should I use for a BF750? My bike has several accessories attached to it so the weight is more than stock. Is 3000# or 4000# too much? Is 2000# too little? 2) What brand of winch is considered the best? I had a WARN on my 700prairie and it did fine for about 13 months and then it shorted out. I had it fixed and 2 months later the same thing happened. Maybe it was just a lemon and maybe not, but I though WARN along with RAMESY were the best. 3) If money was not an issue, which one would you buy and why? Thank for any help!

my opinion is warn& ramsey are the best ramsey has all metal drive gears probably a little stronger than warn slower retrieve speed warn has poly gears faster retrieve speed warn 3.0 which i have on my brute 750 is completely sealed warrantied for life my opinion is the bigger the winch the easier it pulls winch has less strain lasts longer warn 4.0 is great winch but you have to take bumper off to get it in there if mounted up high like mine my 3rd winch choice is milemarker i tried venom - gorrila with no luck lasted only a short time i work my winches harder than they should be

I bought mine for the warranty, the switch it came with, and for the synthetic rope. I actually haven't even used it yet, but I am happy I bought it. I hate the cables.

My Venom winch has outlasted my buddies warn already, i just reccomend putting a quality grease into it. But for half the price of a warn, you cant go wrong. I do however wish i would have bought the venom 3000 instead of the 2500. It was fine at first, but when i got done adding everything, and putting all my gear on it, it has to work pretty hard.

the problem with venom winches is the armatures in motor and to small of wires going to motors they pull to many amps for wires i have burnt up 6 of these 5 - 2500lb 1 -3500lb i work winches very hard pulling atvs out of quicksand on river warn&ramsey only ones that will stand up for me!

I have a Warn 2500 on my BF750. Not real happy with it. Seems like it struggles alot. I am looking at either getting a Mile Marker 3500 or I have heard that a Warn 4000 will fit on a BF. Probably go with the Mile Marker though, save alot of money. I can buy 2 Mile Marker 3500's for the price of the Warn 4000. I'm just trying to figure out a way to mount one on the back without having to use the Warn multi-mount kit.

yea, i have the Warn 4.0 on my brute. i had to drill new mount holes in the Warn mount plate and modify the fairlead mount for the bigger fairlead. probably not something i'd suggest to everyone, but i am happy with it. i also run steel cable only.

Thanks for the replies. What about cable? What do you like and why? Metal or synthetic? Also, when I do install a winch, are there some pointers that I should do to help increase the life of the winch? Again, thanks.
