I just wanted to ask other Prairie owners what size and kind of after market tires are you runnning? Is there a very noticeable loss of power? Also, I would think that going with larger and heavier after market tires would certainly accelerate belt wear causing it to require more frequent replacement.

I have always replaced my tires with the stock tires. I know some people don't like them but I find they work well and help give a better ride than other tires. The tread it a good for all the terain I ride in.

Wayne B,

I agree with you, the stock tires always ride better. However, due to their 2-ply construction, they also get flats much easier. I think the stock tires on the Prairie are pretty decent. But, going with a larger tire height wise does give you that extra edge in ground clearance. That's really the most imporant factor when it comes to making it through mudholes.

99 400 4x4 Prarie

I went with 26" goodyear mudrunners on mine. I think there 9 inch wide in the front and 12 inch wide in the rear.
They provide more ground clearance and improve the mudding ability of my quad.
They also add a stiffer ride.
The power loss is minimal, yet noticeable. When I first put them on I thought they slowed me down off the line, but I can still smoke my dads 300 4x4 Prarie.
If I was to do it again I would either buy the mudrunners or maybe some bearclaws. If ground clearence was of less concern I would get some 25" bearclaws so I would benefit from better tires that didn't weigh a lot more than stock tires.
