my friend has a kfx 400 which was from ebay(mistake) and he got it home and it didn't work but today just for the hell of it I tried pop starting it and it turned right over and started...With the electric start it will turn and turn but never fires up...it gets spark when using the electric start and just won't fire...so I took the harness and looked at it where the killswitch and start button is and all of the wires were cut and I also found that the wire that connects to the clutch was missing so what I am thinking is that the wiring from the killswitch and the clutch are causing it to not fire up as I believe there is a signal not being sent(I believe that the clutch wire is the problem) so I am going to try a harness for that section off of his z400 tom and see if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

 

Yes on a KFX400 when you use the starter you have to pull in the clutch to start it...So thats your prob..

 

yea thats what I though because the guy pretty much hacked up the whole harness for the handlebars and I am going to give it a try using one off of his z400 and hopefully it'll work because i would say it would be something else but it starts when pop starting...doyle do you know what exactly why it doesn't start when the clutch isn't pulled in it has to engage something but I don't know what.

 

Thanks for the reply the black banshee or top secret shee is looking pretty good so far hope all goes well and just wreck the 4 strokes and keep the 2 strokes alive.

 

LOL ok...We the thing with the clutch is a safty thing..I really dunno why its that way..But my buddie has one and i know you have to pull the clutch in to start it...
