Default BF 650i air filter duration?

I have been cleaning my stock air filter on every 1 to 2 rides depending on dirt levels. My main question is how long do these stock air filter last? I noticed for the first time that my air filter let in fine dust like you would see on your coffee table after 24 hours. At this point I have always used the PJ chemicals to clean and lube the stock air filter. The PJ chemicals have worked flawless since day one. Should I be concerned about the engine at this point?

How long do filters last?
It all depends how you wash them and how they were manufactured. There is no magic number for their lifespan. You just have to inspect the filter element every time you wash for their integrity. When you first see the filter element disintegrating, that's the time you need to toss it IMO. I think you should be more concerned of how well the filter is doing its job. After a day of riding in a real dusty condition, remove your filter element and look into the carb throat for any trace of dirt or debris. Think of dirt as flow of electricity - dirt will try to find the easiest path (the least amount of resistance) into your carb throats. In my experience with quads, the trouble spot is usually the base of the filter element that sits on the airbox bottom. I put lots of sealing/tacky grease there.

Hayashi

Thank you for your response. I do the same with the stuff with the sticky tacky on the top/bottom of the filter. I am going to go ahead and order a new Uni filter to replace the stock one.
