Any tire recommendations for a '99 Prairie 300 4x4?
Guys: I've got a rookie question. I have a 99 Prarie 300 4x4 that needs tires. I'm looking for something taller and more agressive. I don't care much about top speed, but low end torque is important. Local hills can be pretty steep and very slick. Anwyay, does anyone have any tire recommendations for a low speed trail runner that wants top keep stock rims and has shallow pockets? Thanks, Mark

The tire you select should be equal to the type of riding you prefure to do. I have Gators on both of my bikes but I would not recommend them for someone that does a lot of trail riding. I do a lot of diversified riding but I am bad to drop off in the big mud holes and give her heck. My wifes 300 can keep up with any of us and I left the 25" tire on her bike. I would not go any bigger than that on hers. I installed 26" gators on my 360 but I'm not sure but if I would have been just fine sticking with the 25" tires also. I gained maybe 3/4" in ground clearence but It made the handling a little stiffer and I had a small loss in low end power. Get several opinions before you buy but I would for sure buy at least a 6 ply tire.
Keep us posted to what you do.

I have gators on the back and dirt devils on the front of my eiger, I would recommend the dirt devils xt. V2 rider has swamp lites and they look pretty cool also, I just didn't want to spend the money for them, Oh and I kept my stock rims, it looks and runs great way better traction.

I dont have mudlites but I think I read on here that they are an awesome tire unless you ride in rocks alot. I think I remember someone saying that they wear really bad in rocks. I am not 100% sure about this but I think thats what I read somewhere, if im wrong please chime in here and say so...

IMO... one of the best things you can do is switch out the stock wheels... they are steel, & the rears are 10"... If you look around, you can probably find a set of stock aluminum wheels off a 650 Prairie... the 650 Prairie wheels are 2/3 the weight of the stock 300 wheels, which makes a huge difference on the smaller 300 Prairie... enough so, to allow you to run a better tire without losing much in the way of performance...
ours is a 2001 but the same basic machine, & I wouldn't run a taller tire, & often run shorter tires for the type of use you are describing... I installed a Warn 424 front drive shaft disconnect, & ours currenly has a set of 22" X 12.5" X 9" TSL's on the rear, mounted on a light weight set of 9" X 9" wheels, & a set of stock 650 Prairie 25" front tires & wheels, & it is a trail ripper & hill climber...
