Just put a new battery in the Bayou and it keeps blowing the fuse right next to the battery. Anybody ever had this problem and fixed it. I need to find out where it is shorting out! It runs fine without using the battery but I have to pull start everytime and I have no lights.

Check those 3 sets of wires under the seat the left rear. Those 3 wires all go toward the battery area, coming from front. Make sure they are not damaged/shorting, because they easily get pinched between the rubber damper under the seat and the frame, next to the left round hole on the frame (there are 2 holes left and right on the frame where the seat prongs go in).

 

Thanks, that is a great point. The new battery actually worked/fired initally when installed for first 5 minutes. The problem happened after I tried to secure the seat back on tight, it killed the engine. So you think that I pinched some wires in the holes where the seat attaches to the front??? I can't figure out what else it would be. Eucker

 

Actually you need to look at the REAR of the seat, not the front.
Go to your quad and remove and flip over the seat, make it up-side down. You will see 2 square shaped rubber dampers. One of them (left one as you sit/ride when the seat is up-side up) will be pinching on the any one of the 3 wire sets to the frame.

 

Actually the seat is currently off of the ATV as I have been trying to trace the crimped wires. I will try as suggested and look more closely. Went through about 10 fuses already and has to be something simple. Any other thoughts if this is not it? Eucker

 

There are other remote possibilities but what I told you will most likely lead you to the solution. The reason is you wrote:

It is pretty much clear that the seat is pinching the wires. They are shorting them each other or to the frame.

I havn't found the problem yet! Mine happened without the seat even on from the first time. I checked all the wires and can't come up with anything!

 

I just glanced at this last night and didn't find anything either. The wires don't make it all the way back directly under the seat. they ride along the left hand side and connect to the battery. Will check it in more detail this weekend to see what I can find. If you figure it out, let me know. Just wondering if there is an override switch that needs reset? Eucker
