Default 92 bayou 300 burning oil

I have a 92 Bayou 300 4X4 and it is burning a little oil. Not much but I was wondering if there is an oil additive or anything like it that I can add to help.

Thanks

Hello givey!

How's it going??? did you get the leak around the output shaft fixed???

Anyway, The ONLY oil additive that I would EVER trust in an ATV is Lucas oil stabilizer. I use it in my warrior, not because it burns oil, (it does'nt) I use it because it extends oil life and helps reduce engine wear. Use only 10% in your engine. It is safe for wet clutches as well. I noticed that my quad seems to run cooler and smoother now that I am using the Lucas oil stabilizer stuff. Any auto parts store has the stuff.

Hope this helps.

....... Oh yeah, it says on the bottle that it helps reduce oil consumption (burning).

Hey Jack

Well I did get the leak fixed...Only a little was atributable to the seal. The real problem $$$$$$ was that the CV joint on the rear shaft was shot. There was a hole all the was through it. The CV boo would fill with oin then it would seep into the outer boot. What a mess. Appears to be running fine now though except I know it is burning a little oil (14 years old so it's no small wonder) and was just looking for info on additives. I read somewhere else about Lucas so it's nice to get your feedback. Hey if you get a chance look at my pics of my left front shaft. It appears to have a slight (1/8-1/4") gap where it mounts/slides into the gearbox. The right shaft sits snug against the box. Any ideas on that? Is something loose or lost off?

Thanks for the feedback

Hope your enjoying your quad

Greg

Hi Greg - have you used the suggested additive and have you noticed any difference?

Mine's doing the same thing, but burning quite a bit I have a feeling I was plowing for about 6 hours straight the other day and managed to burn through half the oil I believe....

Actually I have not tried it yet. Weather here has been nasty and I haven't done anything. As soon as I get a chance I will post back here so everyone can see the results.

Wonder how big of a job (expense) it would be to have a local shop replace the rings/valves head gasket?
