I was riding my 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220 with a bunch of buddies, and I was low on gas, so I went back to my house to get some. I accidently filled it up with diesel. I ran it for awhile before relizing it, then it just shut off, and i had to get towed home. When I got home, I drained the fuel, and put new stuff in but now it wont start. The fuel filter looks like its not getting enough fuel in it. My brother thinks that we might have to rebuild the carborator because the diesel might have junked it up. Tell me if there might be a different problem. Thanks, Kyle

I think you need to clean your carb but I would hold off on rebuilding it until I talked to someone about it.You might talk to a car or truck service department and see what diesel does to a gas motor.I'm sure dodge, ford and chevy dealers have run across this problem.Just a suggestion.good luck.

Some of the older tractors with carburetors were designed to start and warm up on gas and then be switched to stove oil or diesel. When someone would shut one of these engines off without switching back to gas they would not start. Cure was to drain the carb and get good, fresh gas in the float bowl. They then started normally. I suspect if you are sure all of the diesel is out of the system you will be fine.

The worst it should do is foul up your plug and possibly the carb. Like the other guys said, drain the carbs and try to flush some fresh fuel through to them. Put a new plug in it and you should be good to go. It's no different than fogging the engine for storage, it just doesn't burn worth a crap when it's cold.

Been there done that. I was low on gas, filled the tank with diesel by accident. Bike ran fine till all the gas was gone and the diesel was in the carb. After a few hours of trying to figure out what was wrong I got pissed and left the machine for a few days. Came back to it about a week later and I realized I put diesel in instead of gas. I drained the tank, pulled the plug, drained the carb. I then filled the tank with gas, left out the plug and cranked the bike over with the throttle wide open to clean out any diesel residue in the carb and cylinder. Put in new plug and she fired right up and ran strong.

lol, yea it sucks, well I drained the tank twice already, cleaned the lines, looked at the carborator, and it was Very clean. I don't know what to do, Tommarrow im going to buy a new spark plug. But, when i turned that gas on, if flowed into the carborator, but when i try starting it, the spark plug dosent get wet. Maybe the jets are dirty?

When I did that it was with my 250x. After a few tries of kicking it over it would not fire and my leg was killing me since I have a HC wiseco piston. I finally had my brother pull me around the yard with the lawn mover, the plug out and the machine in gear. Basically trying to jump start it with out a spark plug. By doing so I was able to pump the gas threw the carb. I also used some starting fluid to get the motor to fart. It did fire back up and ran a tad rough till it warmed up. I haven't had any problems since then and it runs great.
