If you had flipped the compression lever near the top of the cyclinder head the engine would have turned over quite easily. Hope you didn't pay the dealer too much to do it for you.

We also had problems with my wifes Bayou just about a month after buying it. It turned out to be the wiring harness underneath the seat. The dealer said that it is a common assembly mistake made by the dealership. If the mechanic fails to run the harness through the proper way and zip tie it secure, then the harness gets caught between the seat frame and the plastic moldings. Riding vibration causes the wear on the harness and eventually it shorts out. The dealership was very prompt about remedying the problem. After that we have never had another problem with it.

yea that compression stroke can be a real killer, with the pull start rips the darn pull start right outta your hand. As to the electric start, mine is exactly like that. THe top of the wires, where the seat comes down are all raw now, that is what caused the short. The wire's covers were rubbed off to a point that the copper is showing.

Had a similar problem with my 1988 220, the starter actually spun the gear it engages to off the shaft until it was jammed. Dealer had to pull off the left case use loctite on the gear/shaft and put it back together. He said he had never seen one come apart. The charge was about $50 if I remember. I had thought my starter was toast at first, pulled it and it turned ok but the other gear in the case was so jammed I couldn't budge it even with a huge screwdriver.....good luck.

hey 4 trax.I would check and charge the battery see if that worked, you be suprised alot of problems are almost nothing, second I would check wiring,I work on cars and alot of times windings go bad in starter but sometimes its nothing more than a loose connection of wires from vibration.walla your back in business from the sounds of things 1 month is too new for a starter to go bad on a quad unless ya river ratted it or drowned it out and never dried off the connections.
