Bayou 220 problems
#1
Has anyone had a problem with the electric starter on their bayou 220? My friends 2001 bayou 220 starter solenoid stopped working 1 month after he purchased it, and the dealer told him is would cost $150 to replace it
Has anyone else had this problem?

try to jump the starter by running a different wire to the starter. WHen you try to start it do you only hear a clicking sound? IF so what I had to do to mine was I wiggled all of the wires that had to do with the starter, it finally ended up being a short in one of the wires...

There was a clicking sound but the dealer recomended that we get a new one just to be safe It was a $150 with parts and labor but the part itself was only 36 dollars or something like that so we did it ourselfes to save a few bucks

My 2000 bayou 220 did the same thing and we took it in like a week after the warrenty was up and our dealer did all the work under the warenty even though it was expired, it turns out that the wireing harness had a short in it.

My 220 has the same problem. The starter just clicks when the start button is pushed. Could someone please tell me where this wiring harness is located, and how to check it. I've already checked the fuse beside the starter relay. It was good. Could someone please help? Thanks.

After reading the replies to your post, it sounds like the dealer is looking to make some easy money on a common problem that can be corrected with minimal expense. My guess is that he has seen the problem several times before and doesn't want to miss another financial opportunity. Maybe I'm missing something, but why is he not honoring the one-year warranty?
I would contact Kawasaki directly and see what answer you get from them. For all we know, Kawasaki may have already issued a recall for this problem and is giving this guy another $150 every time he repairs one.

I had problems with mine too, and it just plain old didnt work.. We took a tester to the lines associated with it and there wasnt a problem, so we took the thing to the dealer and they replaced the entire startor motor for like 200 dollars if i can remember correct. btw mine is a 94!

The short on mine was the wire that led to the neutral safety switch. I just kept playing around with that wire until the starter worked everytime then I just tapes the wires up in that possition, lol.. try and see if this is what is the matter with yours too...
