03 Prairie 360 4x4 Paralyzed By Water
If I ride my 2003 Prairie 360 4x4 in water higher than the footboards it quickly becomes paralyzed until it is taken to higher ground and allowed time to dry out. I have heard of lots of other Kawasaki owners having this same problem. Is their anything that can be done to correct this defect or should I send it to the ebay heavens? Thanks, Steve

Not sure, well actually don't have a clue, what you mean by "paralyzed". Does the quad totally lock up solid, the engine quit or what?
I have never had mine much above the floorboards in water but have suffered no ill effects from crossing streams and such.

By paralyzed I mean the transmission slips horribly to the point that it just about will not move even at wide open throttle. My step-father has a 2000 Kawasaki Prairie 400 4x2 and it does the exact same thing. I have read on other forums Kawasaki owners complaining about this same problem. I heard something about Kawasaki transmissions having some type of belt drive set up that is vulnerable to water. I am just wondering if their is something (perhaps aftermarket) that can be done to correct this. I guess if you are not having this problem consider yourself lucky or hold your breath every time you cross a creek. Thanks, Steve

Sounds like you are getting water into the drive belt case. This case is supposed to be sealed with vents under the cowling that covers the fuel tank area. Apparently yours has a leak that needs to be repaired. There are a number of ATV's that have the belt drive system and water will affect any of them if they get wet.
If you do your own maintenance find the leak and repair it. If not, contact your dealer. You should be having no problem with water just over the "floorboards".

I have heard that some people remove the cover over the belt and run a bead of silicone around the edges and reinstall. Supposedly this helps keep the belt dry when going through water. You may want to have your belt inspected as it could have gotten damaged from slipping. Also, sometimes the belts need readjusted after breaking the bike in, yours may just need tightened. Good luck.
