87 mojave valve timing marks
#2
The timing marks for the cams are on the cam sprockets. There is dimple on each sprocket. To set the timing the dimplel should be across form each other on the inboard side if that makes sence. Be sure the cam chain is not loose, there should be less than 1/8 inch play between the two spockets. Alos make sure the cam chain tensioner is in good working oder.

Thanks for the info, when I took it apart the dimples were horizontal with the top of the cylinder and apart from each other (on the outboard side). It must have been at the top of the other stroke. regards.

That may be right. Ill have to check my manuel tonight. I havent ajussted my valvels yet this spring. Also to check for tdc on compresion stroke, on the left side on the case is are 2 plugs, one for the flywheel bolt, and one on top of the case to check the timming mark., take both out, use a socket to turn the motor till the you can see the timing mark on the flywheel. I believe it is the letter "T". when the T is lined up, is tdc on compresion and that is when the dimples should line up. Sounds like to me that valvle timing is good if they line up with the top of the head, that is how I do it when I ajust my valves.
