Funny people; check it out. Just got back from the 2nd stop on the pro ATVA MX Champ series from Glen Helen in Devore CA. Was surprised to see a huge Monster sponsored Kawi trailor along w/ the usual Suz, Hon and Yam names... They had a stock KFX450 on display (good looking quad), looked alot like a stock Hon 450. Did not sport that unique Suz 450 wide stance....(More trial bike)..... Kawi brought two young pros (to compete against the best in the world).... And I would honestly have to say it wasn't the bike....There is one hill at Glen Helen they call "Horse Power Hill" and for good reason; it's probably one of the steepest and longest hill climbs in the series. But as I watched from the stands the new KFX450 seemed to have plenty of power to compete even in its infancy... As I watched the the race progress I became more convinced it was more a matter of ridder ability than Mfg support... All I can say is this "Cory Ellis coming from Yam to Suz" in the second moto got bumped off the first left hander (off Talledega Turn), w/ bike stalled, the pack is gone and there he sits. There's only 15 pro racers in the field, and he's for sure #15 by at least 300 yards... Then he starts the bike and gets going..... This son of a _____. Rode like a man on fire...... How do you come from that far back and still finish 8th out of a group of the worlds top 15 ? Of course Mr. Byrd owned it like he did last year ..BUT, I must say..the young Kawi riders and their machine impressed me........Check out next year when possibly KTM w/ Tim Farr (different series I'm sure) will add a little spark somewhere.........................
