Best bet if your away for 4 years sell it put the money in a hi Yield interest fund and when you return you will have the money to buy the state of the art machine.
Or pull the plugs put a shot glass full of Marval Mystery oil in the cylinders revolve the crank a few times plug the sparkplug holes with a clean cotton rag
put the sparkplugs in the tool kit so they will not get lost.
Drain the gas it will go bad over time. drain the carb bowls reseal and put some Marvel Mystery oil in the tank let it flow into the float bowls.
Disconnect the battery and remove it place it on a rubber or wooden block off the floor in a warm environment constant temperature.
Polish the tires with Armerall reduce the air preasure not all the way.
block the machine up so the suspension is relaxed and the tires are off the floor.
Ideal to keep the machine in an enviroment that does not change in temperature.
Hot and cold changes in temperature and wet and dry plays funny games on any machine.
In a way you will come back to a machine that is older and be in mint condition that may have or not increased in value.

Excellent Tommy,
If you have the facilities, not a bad idea to take the tires off and store them in a warm place (like mabe your old bedroom, a heated cellar).
Not sure if Tommy mentioned but I would fill the crankcase with oil too - Marvel Mystery Oil or regular motor oil - the cheapest you can find because you are going to drain it and chuck it anyway, when you get back.
