Default kawasaki prarie 360 2004. 2wd-4wd select problem

Hey, my atv could not select either 4wd or 2 wd on the handlebars. there is 5vdc before the select contact, but nothing on the actuator, and the contact is fine. i suspect the actuator to be the problem, but it seems to look allrigt- nothing broken inside and the gear inside runs smooth. The potentiometer inside the actuator works fine between 0-1k ohm, i dont know if it is the actuator or a control box there is a problem. no broken wires or so. besides the "check belt" warnings ligth periodically, mostly if i ran in high rpm, then i has to reset the cdi. does these problems have something to do with each other? or is it just an electrical indicator problem on the drive belt system? love to hear some with a similar problem or so.

Default kawasaki prarie 360 2004. 2wd-4wd select problem

Welcome to the forum.

Never had the problems you are describing but there have been several posts about strange electrical things on various bikes that have been traced back to dirty connections at plug in terminals.

I would suggest you unplug each connection, clean it and use a dielectric grease when reconnecting. This can be a bit time consuming but will at least eliminate one source of trouble even if it does not cure the problem.

Another source of trouble has been dirty battery terminals and bad ground connections. These should be cleaned and dielectric grease used when hooking back up.

A couple of times I have seen where the problems have been traced back to a bad cell in the battery.

Electrical problems can be very difficult to track down but by eliminating the various simple possibilities the solution often becomes quite simple.

I also have the same problem

when im riding and i switch into 4wd from a stand still or moving.. the 4WD will not kick in, however at random times the 4WD will kick in.... almost like theres a lose or bad connection or something. It kinda sucks when you get stuck in mud in 2wd and cant engage 4wd to get out.

Ive also read about problems with the actuator that could cause similar symptoms...the actuator will test ok but its a problem with a potentioneter?

I also have read that it could be a speed sensor?

I am so confused... and I cant go wasting money trying to figure it out... I finally got the check belt light off and now this....

can anyone suggest a fix? please help!
