Default Brute Force 650/750

Question: Does anybody have any problems with the lever that locks the front diff? Does the cable have problems with adjustment? Or do you find that you lose a grip on the lever when you need it most? The reason I ask is that I recieved a DVD from Yamaha on the Grizzly 700 and they were ragging on the Brute for this feature. Note: That's about the only thing they could rag on the Brute force about.

Thanks all

On the Kawasaki's this Dif-loc is Variable, the more you pull in the yellow lever the more dif-loc you have. All of the other makes just offer full-time dif-locks, its either in or out. Release the yellow lever on the Kawie and the dif-loc is off. I have never had a problem with my lever to engage the dif-lock, as it is a one-finger operation. Penland offers a lock to leave the dif-loc on after you have pulled in the lever but for me I have found the Variable Kawasaki system to be a plus over the others.

only issue I have ever had in mud was that when I pulled it in to lock them, it seemed like it wanted to dig deeper...man that thing has some power...

Yamaho' rags because they can't beat it...

PS. Cuz' bought the new 700 Griz. Nice ride and all, but she only topped out for me at 63 mph....

All BF's and Prarie's are the same from 2000-up. The diff lock is adjustable on both by removing the top handle bar plastic. The correct way to adjust the diff lock is to use a spring scale and set the lever to 7 lbs.. I've got mine set to 4 lbs. but I also changed the front final gear case oil which makes a big difference. Remember guys, if you don't take care of your toy like keeping up on changing all of the fluids, filters and maintenance intervals, your toy won't be there for ya. I keep up my '03 KVF Prarie 650 and I've never had a worry. But I also bought the service manual for it right after I bought the bike too.

i never have a problem holding onto the diff lock. Just wrap a finger onto it and your ready to go. There is goods and bads to the kawi vs. the yamy. The yammy you dont have to hold it but the kawasaki you can lock it while moving (as long as both fron wheels are spinning at the same speed and not wildly going back and forth) and the kawasais can easily be released. I think the yamahas holds locked better but as long as you adjust the kawasakis when needed you wont have problems.
