hey folks, can someone help me out i have an 1987 220 bayou and when i turn the ignition switch on and press the start button nothing happens. i can short across the solinoid and start it i can pull start it but not with the electric start. i put a test light on the starter side of the solinoid and when i push the start button it dont transfer any fire to that side at all any suggestions. thanks.

 

It sounds like you have a bad ground to the Electric Starter/Relay circuit. Look for the heavy gauge black wire coming from the Starter/Relay and attaching to the engine case. When you find it, remove the black wire connector end from the engine, lightly file the spot on the engine case where the connector touches, and reconnect it. This is to remove any corrosion built up, paint and debris and to provide good chassis ground for the Starter/Relay circuit.
