You need to add a Pro Design intake first. It makes a much better seal to the airfilter than the stock one. It comes with a Uni-filter wich will flow more air. Since your getting more air you"ll need to bump you your pilot jet from the stock 22.5 to a 25. Then bump up the main from a 120 to a 160 and pop off the airbox lid. You can run her without a lid or do like I did and add a breathable Outwears lid cover wich will help keep the filter clean and keeps off mud and repels water. Last you need at least a slip on exhaust like the whitebrother E2 that I have on my 400 suzuki which is the same as yours just different color and stickers. Do this and you"ll think your on another quad. My z with these Mods will hold right with my 450R. It hangs right with her just want pass her.

I agree that you have to richen up the carb whenever you are allowing more into the intake if you want to do it right. More power can't be made with air alone - need more fuel as well. Just be careful when modding the air intake like that if your bike still has any warranty.

i have to ask how far do you plane on taking the the intake idea? are you going to eliminate the air box or try to hold on to it?
about the cheapest in take is a 400ex air boot ,it can be made to fit the stock air box if mud and water is a big concern or remove the air box and put on a large air filter ,ebay is full of them.
what this setup did for me was a 2 hp increase and it was way cheep, but i only use this setup for riding sand . i will be tiring a 450r air boot it should hook up to the stock air box ,not sure it the same filter is going to work but it does look promising

i had the k@n that fit inside your air box, it was ok---not pro flow. if you plan on doing internal mods get a bigger carb.ibought a yfz carb off e-bay for 150--made my own intake and put a uni filter on it.
