do you have any friends with a 400 ? if so try their cdi.... also make sure you intake tube is on the carb good, no leaks !! raptor use to act like that do to the reverse sensor. it seems to be electrical if my guess. good luck.

check the tps (throttle positioning sensor). i took mine off an reattached it an mine worked fine after havin the prob u have. the tps is adjustable also. id start there. watch out those screws strip easy. spray some lube so it turns easy too.

after looking in my service manual I see that the 04 doesn't have a TPS like the 05 so I guess thats not the problem. I apprreciate everyones input on this but sad to say I am getting close to taking the bike in to the local shop. I can't try to swap CDI units as I don't know anyone else with the same bike and if it is electrical then my trouble shooting skills in that area are not good, well I guess since I couldn't figure this out then you could say that in general my trouble shooting skills are not good.
