Default 1997 Kawasaki Bayou 300 - 2X4

I am looking at a 97 bayou 300 2wd. Can anyone tell me me about this machine? Did thay have any problems? Is their anything I should look at closely? What about the motor, trans, rearend?
They are asking 1,000 for it and say it is in fair condition. Tires are about 50percnet. He said that he buy used 4 wheeler and fixes them up.
thanks for all the help

It weighs 500lbs dry. The 220 bayou weighs 400lbs dry. My 220 is up to 450lbs now with big tires n all. The 300 is going to be a big hog. And I think it dont have double a-arms, like most other quads.

Look at the rear diff. Make sure it locks and unlocks. My bud used to have one and I know he beat the crap out of it and it never broke, except the rear diff he couldn't unlock it. No big deal unless you use it for yard work so not to tear up the grass.

I have not road it yet. I was going to look at it this weekend if the weather is ok.
What do you mean by big hog? It is a large quad? Hard on gas? Hard to turn?
My wife will also be riding the quad. So is only about 110 lbs so it needs to be easy to ride.
How about parts? Are they easy to get? How about parts priceing?
thanks

Put it this way... A 250ex weighs 350. A 450r weighs about 370. A 230 quadsport weighs 315. The bayou 300 weighs 500! The Kingquad 700 weighs 600. Why does a little 300 weigh so much? Hog.

I dont know if its hard to drive though. The bayous where basically cheap quads that did the job.

Parts should be easy to find,,, if you mean brakes, filters, n stuff. You won't find too many high performance parts though, lol.

Unless your wife is a good rider, I would get her something more in 300-350 lb range rather than 500lb. She is only 1/6 of the total weight! Not like a 200+lb guy that would be closer to a 1/3 of the total weight.

Price sounds good to me. Parts are easy to get as long as you do not want performance parts.
