Twin Peaks 800 vs. 2 modded Raptor 700's
I just got home from riding and doing a little drag racing at a local ATV park (Huntsville, TX). Thought you guys might be interested to hear how my Twin Peaks did in a drag race against 2 modded Raptor 700's and an old Honda 250r. Below is my write-up of today's adventure...
Today was a fun day, but short and I didn't do as much drag racing as I would have liked.
THE COMPETITION
The first Raptor 700 (owned by Kevin) was dyno'd in the low 60's HP and it has lots of mods (piston, cam, headwork, dual exhaust, etc.). The other Raptor 700 (owned by Eddie) had an aftermarket (single) pipe and sand tires (not sure what else). I saw these 2 quads race today and Eddie's was about 1 quad length or more slower than Kevin's Raptor. I also lined up with the guy on an old Honda 250r (2 stroke).
THE DRAG STRIP
This particular drag strip has deep sand on one side and hard pack on the other. It was very rough/rutted in the sandy part and not much better in the dirt/hard pack side. I was very disappointed b/c I've raced on this drag strip before (during some ATV rodeos) and it was well groomed/smooth back then. It looked like they haven't groomed it in a long time. We started all races from the dirt/hardpack side and headed towards the sandy side. I could only go about 150 feet max before I had to let out due to the rough parts of the track.
THE RACES
In the first 3 races, I lined up with the above quads and beat all of them off the line pretty easily. I was looking back at them at the first 20 or 30 feet! lol It was that bad...then they would start to catch up to me, but I'd have to totally let off before I hit the rough sandy area and then they'd finally go past me as I slowed down and turned around. In the 4th race, we backed up a little more for the start to get more distance. We probably ran a good 200 feet on this race. I spun the tires more off the line on this race, but I stayed side by side with the fastest Raptor all the way until we both let off. We were about dead even the whole race and we both agreed to that afterwards. The 250r guy said he was very impressed with my quad. Kevin (the fastest raptor) and Eddie (the slower raptor) were also impressed. Kevein also told me (and the other guys that came with him today) that he has raced many quads (banshees, etc.) and he has never had any problem beating anyone until he raced me today. He said I was the fastest quad he's ever raced so far. That made me feel pretty good! lol
Kevin didn't have a big head about his quad before or after we raced, so it wasn't as much fun beating him the first 3 races as it could have been! lol Actually, he seemed pretty cool for a young guy (probably 21 years old). We talked more about our quads and he got it dyno'd at a local shop at about low 60 HP. I told him about my dyno numbers (72.7 RWHP) and I admitted they are hard to believe... he said my dyno numbers might be accurate given the fact we ran about the same on the track today on the last run and that my quad is so much heavier than his raptor. Also, he is a skinny little guy...probably 160 lbs max...so I probably outweigh him by 60 lbs or so. All in all, I was very happy with my results today.

Thanks vbalz. Sounds like we both have the same bbk (I also have the stage 3 cams). Do you ever go to the forums at Kawieriders? Lots of guys with BBK V-forces and BBK Prairies frequent that forum...its pretty good for technical info. Just thought you'd like to know.
