Gps questions

godmode, I have a Garmin 12 GPS. It is very small and light, and very easy to use the basic functions. It has 3 backlighting levels, so it is easy to use at night too. Even if you don't know much about it, you can use it's "bread-crumb trail" to get home on. When you turn around, you just follow the line you made. I can't imagine being without it now. Garmin makes a handlebar mount that is just a little clip with a clamp on it for the handlebar. The back of the GPS unit has a notch for the clip and it just clicks into place. Very easy to put on and take off. I also bought their 12 volt adapter that plugs in to the GPS and I run it off the cigarette lighter plug-in on my ATV. If you remove the adapter cord, it automatically runs off its own batteries. Theres nothing to turn on or off if you change power sources, so you don't lose anything. The booklet that comes with it has a list of accessories. You should be able to get them from the same place that sells the GPS. If not, the store should be able to help, or phone Garmin for the nearest place. This unit does more than I use. Needless to say I love it.

I owned an early model Magellan that I eventually threw away after waiting minutes for it to calculate a fix. No matter how many times I re-initialized it, it would still take 5-10 minutes for it to calculate a fix if at all. At one time I contacted Magellan to see if it could be repaired and found it would cost more than a brand new one.
After reading several favorable comments on Garmin units, I purchased on of their new eTrex models and have been extremely pleased with it.
